Dual-Drill Wheels: 139.7+127 Bolt Patterns Explained

A dual-drill, or multi-fit, wheel has two overlapping sets of lug holes machined into one mounting face, so a single rim bolts to two different bolt patterns. On our Rhino Predator, a title reading 139.7+127X10H means the wheel is drilled for both 5x139.7 mm and 5x127 mm patterns — ten holes in all. You mount it using only the five that match your vehicle.

What “139.7+127X10H” on our Rhino Predator actually means

The string is three pieces of information packed together:

  • 139.7 — the first bolt circle: five lugs on a 139.7 mm circle (5x139.7).
  • +127 — the wheel is also drilled for a second circle: five lugs on a 127 mm circle (5x127). The plus sign is what makes it dual-drill.
  • X10H — ten holes total in the mounting face, because two five-lug patterns are machined into one wheel.

Bolt patterns get written in both metric and inch, which is why the same wheel can look like it has two names. Here is how the numbers on the Rhino Predator line convert, with the vehicle families each pattern is commonly found on. How to confirm your truck matches one of the two patterns

A dual-drill wheel fits your vehicle only if one full pattern lines up — not one that is close. Two ways to be sure:

  • Look it up. Your factory bolt pattern is in the owner’s manual, on many tire-shop lookups, or stamped in build data by make, model, year and trim.
  • Measure it. On a five-lug hub you measure from the center of one stud to the center of the stud two positions away (the “skip one” method), then match it to the chart. Bolt pattern is only half of fitment. The number that follows it — offset — decides how far the wheel sits in or out. The Predator runs an aggressive negative offset, and the specifics differ by size:

*Center bore varies by pattern: 87.1 mm on the …/127 wheels, 110.3 mm on the …/150, and 125 mm on the 8x165.1. Which holes to use when you mount — and how to torque

This is the part that matters for safety. On a dual-drill wheel the two bolt circles sit close together, so the holes look crowded. The rule is simple: use only the five holes of the single pattern that matches your vehicle, and never split lug nuts across both circles. The correct set is the one where all five studs pass through cleanly and the wheel sits flat against the hub with the lug seats centered.

  • Match the lug seat. Aftermarket wheels like these typically use conical (tapered) lug seats. Confirm the seat type and use lug nuts made for the wheel, not just whatever came off your factory rims.
  • Torque in a star pattern to your vehicle’s specified value, then re-check torque after roughly the first 10, 25, and 50 miles — new wheels settle and lugs can lose clamp load.   • Watch the center bore. To clear more than one hub, dual-drill wheels use a large center bore (the Predator runs 87.1–125 mm depending on pattern) and center on the lugs rather than the hub.   • Check the load rating. Confirm the load rating stamped on the wheel meets or exceeds your axle’s rating before you drive on it.

The trade-offs of a dual-drill wheel

Two patterns in one rim buys flexibility, with a few honest caveats.

  • Wider fitment. One wheel covers two vehicle families, so it is easier to source and easier to resell — and if you switch trucks within the covered patterns, the wheels may carry over.   • More holes, closer together. Machining two circles leaves less material between some holes. Reputable dual-drills are engineered and rated for it, which is exactly why picking the correct five holes and torquing to spec is not optional.
  • Lug-centric mounting. The large center bore means you may want hub-centric rings for a vibration-free ride, where a single-pattern hub-centric wheel might not need them.
  • Not automatically “universal.” A dual-drill only fits the patterns actually drilled into it. That is why the title spells them out — a 139.7+127 wheel does nothing for a 6x135 Ford.

FAQ

Can I use some holes from each bolt pattern if my studs don’t quite line up?
No. Use only the five holes of the single pattern that matches your vehicle. Mixing holes across the two circles means the lug nuts won’t seat squarely, which can let them loosen. If neither pattern matches, the wheel is not right for your vehicle.

What does the “X10H” at the end of 139.7+127X10H mean?
